Govt to make efforts to identify mineral rich districts in UP

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Government headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to launch a massive campaign to explore minerals in the state after identifying mineral rich districts.

The government recently started the fourth phase auction process under the provisions of the Mineral Auction Rules, 2015 issued by the Government of India, which includes 11 mineral blocks. Prior to this, the government had already auctioned 4 mineral blocks in three phases in 2022 in order to increase the state income.

The government plan is to find minerals and auction it in order to strengthen the state economy while at the same time creating employment opportunities on a large scale.

Search for various minerals is underway

Considering mineral blocks as treasures of the future, the UP government is looking for places where minerals might be buried. The government aims to launch auctions for high-value minerals like gold, sillimanite and andalusite, which can boost the economic development and self-reliance of the state.

In this regard, the government is focusing on the exploration of minerals like PGE, iron ore, and limestone and is making efforts to enhance the development of the mineral sector in Uttar Pradesh.

Many important mineral blocks have been discovered

The Exploration Agency of the Government of India, Geological Survey of India, a Government of India undertaking MECL, and the Department of Geology and Mining in Uttar Pradesh have conducted exploration in the state over the past years. They have identified reserves of minerals such as iron ore, gold metal, phosphate minerals, potash minerals, industrial minerals like andalusite, quartz, pyrophyllite diaspore, limestone for the cement industry, china clay and silica sand for ceramics, among others.

Industries will gain strength, government revenue will increase

In Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, production in three blocks of phosphate minerals for the fertilizer industry will start within the next two years. This will lead to the establishment of fertilizer based industries in Bundelkhand, creating significant employment opportunities for local people and boosting the government revenue.

Additionally, after the current auction of 11 blocks issued by the government, industrial mineral based industries will be established in the most backward district Sonbhadra in the next five years. Areas like Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, and Sonbhadra will see the establishment of ceramic, glass, tiles, and other industries based on minerals like quartz, silica sand, china clay, pyrophyllite diaspore, and more in the state.

Moreover, the production of iron ore minerals in the state will ensure a steady supply of raw materials for the steel industry nationwide, while the state will benefit from huge revenue. The availability of limestone reserves in Sonbhadra district will strengthen the establishment of cement industries.
